I put Juliet Takes a Breath on my reading list mostly based on Roxane Gay’s pull quote on the cover. The work was clearly aimed at a different (read, younger) audience, and I did feel a bit self-conscious reading this during my morning commute due to the graphic chapter titles that my everyone sitting next to me on the train could definitely read, but the easygoing narrative voice and the emotional payoff of Juliet’s personal growth made the read a positive experience overall. It was nice to read a romance novel with a happily ever after not built around a couple and an LGBT bildungsroman not built around seduction.
